PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new apoptosis enhancer that is clinically applicable with reduced side effect. SOLUTION: This new apoptosis enhancer comprises, as an active ingredient, an ubenimex derivative represented by general formula (1) [where R is a hydroxy, a lower alkyl which may be substituted, a lower alkoxy which may be substituted, amino, a mono- or di-lower alkylamino group where the two alkyl groups may be incorporated to form a ring group (oxygen atoms may be included in the ring), an aromatic hydrocarbon-lower alkyl amino group which may be substituted, an aromatic hydrocarbon group which may be substituted, an aromatic hydrocarbon-lower alkyl group which may be substituted, an aromatic hydrocarbon-lower alkoxy group which may be substituted, an aromatic hydrocarbonoxy group which may be substituted, an aromatic hudrocarbonacyl-lower alkoxy group which may be substituted or a mower alicyclic hydrocarbonoxy group which may be substituted or the like] or pharmaceutically acceptable salts.
