PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an organic waste decomposing iron oxide-based catalyst small in a deposited amount of carbon, hardly degrading and low in the manufacturing cost and to provide a manufacturing method of the catalyst and a method for treating organic waste by using the catalyst. SOLUTION: This organic waste decomposing iron oxide-based catalyst comprises an iron compound which consists of one or more of iron hydroxide FeOOH, triiron tetraoxide Fe3O4 and diiron trioxide Fe2O3 all of which are obtained by heating in steam or in a steam-containing atmosphere.
