PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slab inverting device capable of stably inverting a high- temperature slab by holding the slab without making a scratch thereon when a scratch inspection and scratch removal operation are performed for the high- temperature slab susceptible to a scratch. SOLUTION: A slab inlet door 12 and a slab outlet door 13 are provided, opposedly to each other, on the shell part of a slender rigid body frame 6 formed by fixing the end part of a plurality of frames to an end plate, circular frames having a rack gear 11 on the outer periphery thereof is provide, and a slab holding device capable of holding a slab from three directions is provided inside the circular frames 8a and 8a. Also, the slab inlet door 12, slab outlet door 13, and driving devices 30, 32, and 54 driving the slab holding device are provided on the outside of the end plate and, with the circular frames mounted on the support rollers, a rack gear 11 on the outer periphery of the circular frame is meshed with a pinion gear rotated by a drive device 35. The device is disposed near a transporting device and a work bench together with a transfer device.
