PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pearlescent agent capable of imparting excellent pearlescent gloss and provide a pearlescent composition having excellent pearlescent gloss. SOLUTION: The pearlescent agent is composed of a compound expressed by general formula (I) (R1 is a 1-22C alkyl, an alkenyl or an aromatic hydrocarbon group; R2, R3 and R4 are H atom, a 1-22C alkyl, an alkenyl, a hydroxyalkyl, an aminoalkyl or an aromatic hydrocarbon group the same as or different from each other; and R2 and R3 may together form a ring). The pearlescent composition contains 0.5-50 wt.% pearlescent agent, 1-60 wt.% surfactant and 30-98.5 wt.% water.
