PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a fabricating method thereof are to reduce the number of mask to simplify the fabricating method, thereby increasing yield of a product and reducing fabricating cost. CONSTITUTION: The first metal layer and the first insulating layer is deposited on a substrate and then patterned using the first mask to form a gate wire(102) and the first gate insulating layer. The second gate insulating layer, a pure semiconductor layer, an impurity semiconductor layer and the second metal layer are formed on an entire surface of the substrate. The second metal layer is patterned using the second mask to form a data wire(120), a source and drain electrode(112,114) and a storage electrode overlapped with a part of a gate electrode(101). The impurity semiconductor layer except a lower portion of the patterned second metal layer is etched to form a channel portion between the source electrode and drain electrode. The third insulating layer is deposited on the patterned second metal layer and then patterned using the third mask to form a passivation layer(122). The source and drain electrodes and the channel portion are covered by the passivation layer. However, a part of the drain electrode and the storage electrode are exposed through the passivation layer. A transparent electrode is deposited on the passivation layer and then patterned using the fourth mask to form a pixel electrode(118).
