PURPOSE: A key navigation method is provided to move a cursor to a target icon irrespective of an icon arrangement type in a GUI(Graphic User Interface) screen, for example in a handy terminal or a PDA. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of setting a movement direction of a cursor, for example up, down, right or left, by detecting an input cursor movement key(S302), detecting if an icon exists in the direction, set in the cursor movement direction set-up step, within the current window(S304), moving the cursor to the detected icon if an icon is detected in a corresponding detection range(S306), jumping to other window search process if an icon is not detected in a detection range within a current window(S308), detecting if an icon exists in the direction, set in the cursor movement direction set-up step, within the jumped window(S310), and maintaining the current position of the cursor if an icon is not detected in a detection range within the jumped window(S312).
