The invention concerns wavelength division multiplexing transmission systems for regenerating channels by synchronous modulation in one point of the system where the channels are not synchronous. In order to achieve that, the regenerator has a dispersive optical fibre section and a synchronous modulator, the length and the dispersion of the section being selected so as to ensure synchronicity of the bit-times of the channels in the synchronous modulator input.
