PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively detect the regenerative signal obtained from an optical disk of a ROM type or an optical disk of a recording and reproducing type by using a common photodetecting means. SOLUTION: The regenerative signal is obtained by selectively changing over the output from a first arithmetic means 83 for obtaining a difference between the detection output from a first photodetecting section of the photodetecting means 73 disposed at an optical head 25 and the detection output from a second photodetecting section and the output from a second arithmetic means 82 for obtaining the sum of the detection output from the first photodetecting section and the detection output from the second photodetecting section in accordance with the detection output from a detecting switch 54 for discriminating the kind of the mounted disk 1, by which the regenerative information signal as well as focus error signal and tracking error signal in the ROM type and magneto-optical disks are fetched in the single photodetecting means 73.
