PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument using a CPU for detecting and recording any failure caused at the measuring instrument, and for restoring the measuring instrument. SOLUTION: This measuring instrument is provided with a measuring unit U1 for operating prescribed measurement processing, a measuring unit U2 for operating prescribed measurement processing, and a shared memory 30 to be shared by the measuring unit U1 and the measuring unit U2. Each measuring unit is provided with a CPU, a watchdog timer, and an auxiliary storage device. When any failure is caused in one CPU, this failure is detected by the other CPU through the other shared memory by the watchdog timer, and one CPU is controlled by the other CPU based on this.
