The optical disc unit has a light beam directed onto the recording track of the optical disc (40), with provision of a tracking error signal by detection of the reflected signal, used for tracking control. A recording offset signal is generated from the difference between a tracking error component obtained for a given writing level and a tracking error component obtained for a given read-out level, for summation with the tracking error signal during writing.
