An internal combustion engine (1), in particular for a vehicle, is disclosed, which comprises a combustion chamber (4), into which fuel may be injected during a compression phase in one operating variant, or during an inlet phase in another operating variant. An exhaust pipe (8) is provided, in which a catalyst is arranged. The internal combustion engine (1) further comprises an exhaust recycling system, from the exhaust pipe (8) to an inlet pipe (7) and a control unit (18) for control and/or regulation of the parameters for the internal combustion engine (1). The control unit may control and/or regulate, amongst other things, the rate of exhaust gas recycling in the exhaust recycling system, depending upon the temperature of the catalyst (12).
