Lighting device has at least two rod type light sources (5) arranged parallel to each other while being offset relative to each other. The light output, which is directed by the mirrors forms an uninterrupted imaginary line. The invention also relates to a visual testing system with a linear camera and a linear lighting system. The light bulbs used are single socket rod type bulbs with only a socket at one end such as low energy, fluorescent or halogen light bulbs. They are held by supports (3) at their mid-points.
