PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for continuously manufacturing a foamed thermoplastic resin having different shapes in high efficiency by use of only one apparatus. SOLUTION: A method and an apparatus for manufacturing a foamed thermoplastic resin are provided with a process of supplying a foamable thermoplastic resin sheet 1 between a pair of endless conveyor belts 21 and 22, the foamable plastic resin sheet comprising a foamble thermoplastic resin film and foamable thermoplastic resin particles containing a foaming agent almost flatly uniformly arranged on and connected to the resin film, a process of heating and foaming the foamable thermoplastic resin sheet at a temperature rot lower than the decomposition temperature of the foaming agent, a process of controlling the temperature of the foaming and expanding thermoplastic resin sheet and a process of cooling the thermoplastic resin sheet by means of a space-adjustable cooler.
