THROWAWAY TIP FOR GROOVING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a throwaway tip for grooving that can effect smooth and lightsome cutting with a small cutting resistance. SOLUTION: The throwaway tip is in the shape of a rectangular plate, and has in the lower surface a sectionally V-shaped projection extending over the overall longitudinal length and in the upper surface a mounting hole passing through the middle. The shorter-side ridges where the upper surface meets the side faces are cutting edges. The rake face formed in a continuous relation to each cutting edge inclines at 20 deg. to 45 deg. inwardly of the tip as it leaves the cutting edge.
