PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection device for an internal combustion engine having a fuel pump which can maintain the inside of accumulator near a target fuel pressure accurately. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an accumulator 2 connected to a fuel injection valve 1 and a fuel pump 7 connected to the accumulator. Volume varrying means 16, 17, 18 for varying the volume of a pump chamber 7d at the delvery stroke finish time are provided in the fuel pump. The volume of the pump chamber is varried by the capacity varrying means during the suction stroke start time and just before the delivery stroke finish so that the inside of the accumulator becomes near a target fuel pressure.
