PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon black with an improved dispersibility in the rubber matrix, to be blended into advanced structure tire tread greatly enhanced in wear resistance under sense conditions. SOLUTION: A carbon black, with its nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N2SA) being more than 120 m2/g but less than 200 m2/g and its DBP oil adsorption rate being more than 160 ml/100 g but less than 200 ml/100 g, is provided for tire tread, which is further conditioned (1) to have a ratio of N2SA to iodine adsorption rate IA (N2SA/IA) falling in a 0.85-0.98 range and (2) to exhibit aggregate characteristics, determined by centrifugal sedimentation analysis, of (a) the most frequent value (Dst) in the Stokes equivalent diameter distribution curve falling in a 70-110 nm range and (b) the ratio of the distribution curve half value width (ΔD50) to Dst (ΔD50/Dst) falling in a 1.00-1.30 range.
