PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent articles carried by a user of an umbrella from getting wet by a method wherein a portion of the cloth of the umbrella covering the articles is made larger, since when he opens the umbrella, while he is carrying a knapsack or bag, the articles are departed away from the center of the umbrella and hence a larger umbrella is needed. SOLUTION: A water-repellent cloth 3 is attached to ribs 2 having a fit-in type fastener 1. When required, if the fastener 1 is fitted into the ribs of an umbrella, the area of the cloth corresponding to the fastener is expanded so that a knapsack or bag carried by a user is prevented from getting wet.
