PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and inexpensively manufacturing calcium carbonate having 0.5-2.0μm average major diameter of primary particle and excellent in dispersibility. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing calcium carbonate, which includes a digesting process for preparing slaked lime by digesting quick lime with water by two step wet system and a carbonating process for manufacturing calcium carbonate by blowing carbon dioxide in the slaked lime slurry prepared in the digesting process to carbonate, the quick lime used for this method satisfies Y<170 and Y<-0.81X+200 (X represents a 3 min value (hydrochloric acid consumption for 3 min) (ml) in 4N-hydrochloric acid activity in 25 g coarse particle titration and Y represents t60 activity (sec)).
