PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the sheet transporting performance of a printer part, to improve the image quality, and to enhance the sheet feeding performance by accomplishing the one-turn sequence of a sheet feed roller at a low cost with the space suppressed. SOLUTION: This sheet feeding device is provided with a U-turn roller holder A416 for supporting a U-turn roller and capable of rotating the U-turn roller to the position protruding to the sheet transport path or the position retracting therefrom, and a clutch locking mechanism for locking an ASF clutch to prohibit the rotational output to a feed roller or for disengaging the locked state. The ASF clutch in unlocked by the clutch locking mechanism having an ASF lock 444 when the U-turn roller is protruded to the sheet transport path with rotation of the U-turn roller holder.
