SOLUTION: With the grinding wheel 10 with the shaft, high accuracy and high speed grinding can be applied to the inner peripheral surface of a small- diameter hole, because the mounting shaft 12 is made of any material of silicon nitride, an MMC alloy, and a high silicon-aluminum alloy with 15% silicon or more so as to obtain high rigidity to a degree where grinding accuracy is maintained, and because the mounting shaft has a high resonance frequency due to its low specific gravity so as to prevent resonance during grinding. Even if a rotation fracture occurs at overload or at high rpm during grinding, the mounting shaft 12 is broken so that a spindle 26 of a grinder, to which the mounting shaft 12 is fixed, is not bent. Because the specific gravity of the mounting shaft 12 is small, the kinetic energy of the mounting shaft 12 is small at breakage so as to suppress damage to the grinder.
