The invention concerns a payment document (1) characterised in that it bears an indicia of a nominal value and a secret masked individual code number, the masking (2) of said code number being produced for instance by a thin opaque film coating deposited on said code number after it has been printed on the document and capable of being scratched off, the specific nominal value of said document (1) corresponding to its selling price and providing with a certified supplier F, for a purchaser, a credit equal to that same amount. The supplier F is paid by the institution B issuing said documents after verification by the latter of the code number indicated to the supplier by the purchaser A, and the transactions are advantageously carried out through an international computer network such as Internet.
