The lock system has solenoid (11) actuator and a first member (6) in form of a follower which couples in the groove of the key blade, arranged within the body. The solenoid locks the first member relative to the key when the lock is in the second condition, i.e. with the key extracted and rotation of the body is permitted. A second member is between the actuator and the first member, to engage structure of the housing when the lock is in the first condition, i.e. where rotation of the body is inhibited, but extraction of the key is permitted. The second member (7) is driven by a plunger of the solenoid via a lever arm (10). The solenoid is preferably a bi stable type solenoid. An electronic controller is arranged to control the solenoid actuator to selectively enable rotation of the body or key extraction, subject to other predetermined conditions(s) associated with the ignition/start or stop procedure. |
