Process for recovering osmium and ruthenium from precious metal concentrates comprises mixing the concentrate at not more than 30 deg C and heating the suspension/solution produced to not more than 85 deg C; collecting osmium tetroxide in an absorption solution; adjusting the suspension/solution cooled to 20-30 deg C and freed from osmium with a hydroxide at a maximum temperature of 65 deg C to give an alkaline pH; and stirring the alkaline suspension/solution with an agent to leach out the ruthenium forming a ruthenate solution.
