The setting device has a piston-cylinder setting drive (3) for displacement of the headrest (1) relative to the pivoted backrest (2) of the automobile passenger seat, with a bias spring (4) used for automatic retraction of the headrest when the backrest is released for pivoting forwards.The pressure medium for the piston-cylinder setting drive is supplied via a valve (5), e.g. a solenoid valve, controlled by releasing the backrest for venting the piston-cylinder device.
