APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING AN OFFSHORE WELL

A mudline emergency shutoff for offshore wells, including a subsurface gate valve assembly which carries a connector adapted to latch into a subsurface housing at the mudline beneath a body of water, a casing extension connects the housing with a platform at the surface of the water. The gate valve assembly includes automatically closing shutoff valves for each producing well zone held open by control fluid pressure. Production tubing extends to the platform through the extension from the valves of the subsurface gate valve assembly to conduct well fluids to the platform. Control fluid lines also extend to the platform through the extension.
