The guide device is for a surface-adhered printing material and forms part of a rotary printing machine. It comprises a surface formation with a guide surface (17) facing the printing material having a particularly high surface quality. To counteract possible damage to the guide surface, particularly during the preparation of the guide device, a surface structure is formed, which has a support layer (21'). This is covered by a cover layer (24) forming the guide surface. The cover layer has nozzles (39), one of which forms the apertures (36) of the cover layer and the other extends through the through passages (34) of the support layer communicating with the apertures.
