PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mark reading method and a device therefor capable of accurately and efficiently reading a mark even though it is formed on a part other than a substrate in a functional element forming body of a magnetic head slider, etc. SOLUTION: An element forming surface whereon an identification mark of a magnetic head slider 10 is formed is irradiated with a perfectly illuminating light LI. The image of the reflection light LR generated by the irradiation is picked up by a CCD camera 45. A video signal SV obtained thereby has a contrast enough for discriminating the identification mark and the surrounding part. The video signal SV from the CCD camera 45 is inputted to a video processor 50. By the video processor 50, the identification mark is automatically identified on the basis of the video signal SV and further automatically converted into corresponding identification information. |
