A circuit board manufacturing system (10) is provided which includes a production assembly line (12) with a carrier handling system (32) for a plurality of feeder/programming/buffer systems (40). The feeder/programming/buffer system (40) has a flexible feeder mechanism (41) for receiving unprogrammed device in a number of different manners, a programming mechanism (96) for performing a programming operation on the unprogrammed devices at a high rate of speed, and a buffer mechanism (44) for providing the programmed micro devices to the carrier handling system (32). The carrier handling system (32) has its own buffer section (60) and is integrated with an assembly handling system (20) of the production assembly line (10) to populate the programmed devices on to the circuit boards. |
