An injector for a common rail injection system for IC engines has a valve control chamber (9) bounded by the end face (5) of a valve piston (19) guided in a housing of the injector. It has a nozzle needle (21) guided in a hole (29) that is pressed into a needle seat (35) with the injector closed and a pressure chamber (31) bounded by the needle seat in the longitudinal direction. The diameter of the end face (53) of the valve piston is larger than the diameter of the hole. The diameter of the hole is larger than the diameter of the sealing line between nozzle needle and nozzle needle seat.
