PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction-testing machine for accurately and stably measuring friction force without any problems of vibration and core deviation. SOLUTION: A bearing 12a where a support shaft 18 of a drum 11 that is a sample-retaining means for retaining a sample piece 41 is engaged to is provided at a rotary shaft 12 of a rotary plate 14 where a disk 40 is placed, and the drum 11 is supported so that it can be slid freely and rotated in an axial direction for the rotary shaft 12 through the support shaft 18. Also, a torque-measuring means is provided at a cutout being provided at the circumference of the drum 11, and the torque detection position is at the same level as the contact surface of the sample piece 41 and the disk 40. A torque that is generated at the drum 11 when the rotary plate is rotated while the sample piece 41 is being pressed against the disk 40 with specific press force is measured, thus achieving accurate and stable measurement without any core deviation between the rotary shaft 12 and the support shaft 18.
