PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmitter and an image transmission method that are adaptive to both network scanner and Internet facsimile applications. SOLUTION: An IFAX 1 decides which of IFAX transmission processing or network scanner processing the IFAX 1 is executed based on depression of a start button or a scanner button after an operator enters a destination mail address. When conducting the IFAX transmission processing, the IFAX 1 inserts a journal to an original image and transmits an electronic mail to an IFAX 8 via a mail server 3. On the other hand, when the IFAX 1 executes the network scanner processing, the IFAX 1 does not conduct generation of journal, bit map processing, compression and composition with the original image. Thus, the IFAX 1 transfers the original image to a PC 4 without inserting the journal to the original image. Thus, the journal is prevented from being hindrance to processing of the original image by the PC 4.
