PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform high-speed detection on a DNA chip formed of a large number of cells which is impossible by a conventional method to perform detection one piece by one piece and to eliminate difficulties in removing the effects of foreign matter and bringing a fluorescent surface into focus due to the small size of a picture element that one desires to detect in the case of a DNA chip. SOLUTION: A DNA chip is simultaneously excited and irradiated with multi-spot array light to detect fluorescence simultaneously. Then the array light is moved in the direction of the array, and a detecting system and the chip are relatively moved at least in the direction orthogonal to the array to perform high-speed and accurate tests. The scattering of the exciting light from foreign matter is detected to correct the detection results of the fluorescence. In addition, a fluorescent surface is irradiated with second light at an angle, and the fluorescent surface is brought into focus from the detected location of the reflected light.
