PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for battery excelled in such performances as high strength, high stiffness, hydrophilic property and separating property, and its efficient production method. SOLUTION: This separator is composed of at least principal fibers consisting of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer with fiber denier of 0.0001-0.5 d and cross-sectional circuarity above 70% and olefin based binder fibers, and at least a part of the principal fibers is composed of nonwoven fabric adhered with olefin based binder fibers.
