PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new active hydrazide nucleus forming agent used in a high contrast photographic material and to obtain a photographic material for graphic art having enhanced gradation, image quality and exposure latitude and having enhanced stability in the continuous processing of a long-time operation. SOLUTION: The high contrast silver halide photographic material contains a new hydrazide compound of formula I. It is preferably a graphic art material for prepress. High gradation and excellent dot quality, exposure latitude and stability in continuous processing are ensured.
