PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary solenoid that can save electric power, operate at a high speed, and can be miniaturized and made lightweight. SOLUTION: In a rotary solenoid 1, a pair of nearly cylindrical pole pieces 41a and 41b composed by a magnetic body is provided in a rotor 4, and a pair of permanent magnets 42 and 42 is provided at both the sides of a center position in the diametrical direction of the rotor 4. Then, the permanent magnets 42 and 42 are placed between the pole pieces 41a and 41b, so that the arrangement direction of a magnetic pole becomes the same.
