The whole wrapping is first passed through an initial shredder and sieve. The shredded material is reduced in a hammer mill in which the softer material is more finely ground and can be separated out by a sieve. Subsequent processing is designed to separate out other materials e.g. adhesives, foils, etc. The recycling process is adjusted to first remove the most common component and the next, simplest components. The same type of recycling can be applied to all types of plastic packaging and to recycle plastics moulded items e.g. automobile components.
