The static converter has a modular structure with a central unit (10) and several power units (12,14). The central power unit has an AC voltage output (160) and a plug connector socket (24). The power units have a DC voltage input (26) and a plug connector (22). The central unit has a display (18), a mains stage supplying the central unit's electronics and the power units, a mains monitoring circuit and a data logger. Each power unit contains an inverter and a controller driving the inverter.
