Cross-linked well treating fluids, for example for fracturing subterranean zones, comprise water, a galactomannan gelling agent, a cross-linking agent for cross-linking the galactomannan gelling agent, and a viscosity stabilizing agent which is formaldehyde, formic acid, or a mixture thereof.
