PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce high hardness and high corrosion resistance martensitic stainless steel having corrosion resistance equal to that of precipitation hardening type stainless steel and austenitic stainless steel while the characteristics of martensitic stainless steel of being excellent in hardness and workability are preserved invariably. SOLUTION: This low carbon high hardness and high corrosion resistance martensitic stainless steel has a composition containing, by weight, <=0.03% C, <=1.0% Si, <=1.0% Mn, <=0.010% S, 8.0 to 14.0% Cr, 0.13 to 0.40% N, <=0.020% Al and <=0.010% O, furthermore containing one or >= two kinds among Ni, Cu and Co respectively by 0.1 to 1.0% according to circumstances, Mo by 0.1 to 1.0% also according to circumstances, one or >= two kinds among Nb, Ta, V and W respectively by 0.02 to 0.5% also according to circumstances and one or >= two kinds among B, Ca and Mg respectively by 0.001 to 0.01% also according to circumstances, and the balance substantially Fe.
