PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antibacterial detergent composition containing as the antibacterial for laundry and washing a highly safe antibacterial that does not allow resistant bacteria to generate and has a broad antibacterial activity spectrum. SOLUTION: This composition contains as the antibacterial a bisquaternary ammonium salt compound represented by the general formula, wherein R1s, which may be the same or different from each other, are each a 1-18C alkyl or a 3-18C alkenyl; R2s, which may be the same or different from each other, are each hydrogen, hydroxyl, amino, a 1-6C alkyl, or a 1-3C alkoxyl; R3 is a 1-18C alkylene, a 4-18C alkenylene, or phenylene or xylylene optionally substituted with a 1-18C alkyl, a 1-6C alkoxyl, or a 2-6C alkoxycarbonyl; Y1 is -NHCO-, -CONH-, -NHCS-, -COO-, -COS-, -O-, or -S-; Y2 is -CONH-, -NHCO-, -CSNH-, -OOC-, -SOC-, -O-, or -S-; and X- is an anion.
