PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrazone dye which gives a cyanic color having an excellent color tone and is used for colored (composition) articles such as heat transfer recording materials, ink jet recording materials, filters, and so on. SOLUTION: A hydrazone dye of the general formula (D [Ar is an aryl or a heterocyclic group; R1 to R4 are each H, a halogen, CN, NH2, NO2, OH, CO2H, SO3H, a quaternary ammonium, CO2M1/n, SO3M1/n, an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, an aryl, an acyl, carbamoyl, sulfamoyl, an alkoxycarbonyl, an aryloxycarbonyl, an acyloxy, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, an alkylthio, an arylthio, an alkylsulfonyl, an arylsulfonyl, an alkylphosphoryl, an arylphosphoryl or a substituted amino; M is a metal atom; (n) is an integer of 1 to 4].
