<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique by which the color irregularity of a picture to be displayed can be reduced as a projector. SOLUTION: This projector is provided with an illumination optical system, a color light separation optical system separating light to a 1st to a 3rd color light beams, a 1st to a 3rd electro-optic devices modulating the 1st to the 3rd color light beams and generating a 1st to a 3rd bundles of modulated light beams, a color synthesis part synthesizing the 1st to the 3rd bundles of modulated light beams and a projection optical system projecting synthetic light. Besides, it is provided with aλ/2 phase difference plate for defining polarizing directions of the 1st and the 3rd bundles of modulated light beams made incident on the color synthesis part as the 1st polarizing direction and defining the polarizing direction of the 2nd bundle of modulated light beams as the 2nd polarizing direction. Since theλ/2 phase difference plate is arranged so that one surface thereof is exposed to the air and the other surface is brought into contact with a light transmitting member for preventing the polarizing direction from being changed, the color irregularity of the picture displayed by the synthetic light of the 1st to the 3rd bundles of modulated light beams can be reduced.</p> |
