PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nuclear fuel rod capable of suppressing effectively the internal pressure rise of a cladding tube, especially in a high burn-up operation. SOLUTION: This fuel rod is equipped with a cladding tube 2 arranged in the vertical direction and having the inside maintained airtightly, a nuclear fuel pellet 10 arranged inside the cladding tube 2, for generating a nuclear fission reaction, a spring 21 arranged on the lower part of the cladding tube 2, for energizing the nuclear fuel pellet 10, and an adsorbent 3 arranged in an internal space of the spring 21, for adsorbing a nuclear fission product produced by the nuclear fission reaction of the nuclear fuel pellet 10, and is composed so that a coolant 31 is made to flow upward outside the cladding tube 2.
