PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger which is used as an evaporator of an automobile air conditioner, for example, wherein a pipe is not connected to a header at the time of its shipment out of a factory, its packaging expenditure and transportation expenditure are reduced, a surface treatment or an air-sealing test and a leakage test are carried out even before the stage of shipment of this heat exchanger and then a user can fix a pipe of which type corresponds to the type of vehicle. SOLUTION: A heat exchanger 1 is made such that one end opening part 12 of a header 10 is formed like a flare. There is provided a circular pipe end insertion segment 11 in such a way that it may be connected to the flare- like one end opening part 12. The extremity end of the insertion segment 11 is provided with an annular step 13 in which the extremity end of a circular pipe 7 is set inside the header 10 and an extremity end claw 21 of an airtight testing joint fitting 20 is hooked outside the header 10.
