PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp and an electric light bulb type fluorescent lamp with low manufacturing cost by providing U-shaped valves which can make a joint portion at both ends of the valve of the same shape. SOLUTION: The non-formation portion of fluorescent layer 12 is covered at both ends 2c, 2d, 3c, 3d, 4c and 4d of U-shaped valves 2, 3, and 4. Discharge path 10 is formed by sealing a pair of electrodes 5 at one ends 2c, 4d of the two valves 2, 4, respectively, constituting both ends of the fluorescent lamp 1, and forming connection potions 9 at the other ends 2d, 4c of the valves 2, 4 and at both ends 3c, 3d of the valve 3 constituting middle portion of the fluorescent lamp 1 in order to communicate one ends of the valves with each other.
