PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-circuit detector for automobile, which detects that wiring comes into contact with the body of an automobile. SOLUTION: A short-circuit detector 100 is provided for a wiring system for automobile, constituted by connecting a plurality of accessories in parallel between a power supply cable 40 and a ground cable 60 respectively drawn out from the positive and negative sides of a battery 20 for automobile and electrically isolating the negative side of the battery 20 and the ground cable 60 from the body 10 of an automobile. Voltage-dividing resistors R and R set the potential at the body 10 at an intermediate voltage value of the battery 20. An MPU 130 discriminates the contact between the power supply cable 40 or ground cable 60 with the body 10 by comparing the potential at the body 10 with a prescribed reference value and issues an alarm by using lamps L1 and L2.
