PURPOSE:To dispense with execution of curing at high temp. and to obtain high orientation characteristic and high durability of the orientation characteristic, by using orientation film comprising modified polyvinyl alcohol contg. a silyl group in a molecule. CONSTITUTION:Orientation film comprising modified polyvinyl alcohol having a silyl group in a molecule is used. Any modified polyvinyl alcohol having a silyl group in a molecule may be usable, but such modified polyvinyl alcohol having a silyl group contained in a molecule having an alkoxy, acyloxy group, or silanol group derived therefrom by hydrolysis, is particularly preferred. The modified polyvinyl alcohol is coated in the form of aq. soln. on a substrate provided with an electrode by the conventional method, then dried and rubbed with gauze or the like in one direction to attain orientation treatment. By this method, orientation film for a liquid crystal display device which dispenses with curing at high temp., but having high orientation characteristic and high durability of the orientation characteristic is obtd. |
