By having a source of radiation, whose wavelength or wavelengths are absorbed by the molecules being investigated and whose intensity matches the distances to be covered by this radiation, and similarly by having a receiver which analyses the absorptions occurring in the radiation along its path, we can detect and measure the presence of the molecules investigated in this path.
