1-alpha-hydroxy vitamin D3 amide derivs. of formula (I) and (II) and their 20-epi analogues are new. Y = 1-4C alkylene or alkenylene; R1, R2 = H, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or, together with the N atom to which they are attached, form a heterocyclic gp.; and R3, R4 = H or an O-protecting gp. A typical cpd. is 1 alpha,3 beta-dihydroxy-9,10-seco-25-azacholesta -5(Z),7,10(19)-trien-24-one (Ia).
