PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily attachable start detector capable of detecting accurately start of an engine. SOLUTION: The engine for a vehicle provided inside a meter with a charge lamp 1 brought into lights-on and -out in response to drive of a generator is started by a motor connected to a battery, and drive of the motor is stopped after the start is deteremined. A determination circuit 11 is provided to detect optically the lights-on/lights-out of the charge lamp 1 to determine the start of the engine. The circuit 11 is attached onto a glass of a meter panel. A light emitting diode D1 brought into lights-on or -out in response to the determination is provided in the circuit 11.
